What is the purpose of Chiropractic?
Do Chiropractors refer to or consult with Medical Doctors, Physical Therapists, etc?
We are always happy to discuss Chiropractic with others. Likewise, if there are any findings which require consultation with your Medical Doctor, Physical Therapist or other healthcare professional we will let you know.
I’ve been to Chiropractors before and it didn’t work, why should I come and see you?
If you’ve been to a Chiropractor before and weren’t happy, try another one. You wouldn’t swear off medical doctors or mechanics simply because you didn’t like the experience you had at the first one.
While there are standards, Chiropractors are not all the same. Just as there are a handful of ways to drive from Avon to Hartford, Chiropractors utilize different adjusting techniques, have different personalities, and different office staff. Our offices have different feels, different settings, and provide different diagnostic tests All of which help us get you to the same place and fulfill the same standards.
My previous Chiropractor “loosened me up” with heat, elecrical-stimulation, ultrasound, etc prior to the manipulation, why don’t you?
- There is a difference between an adjustment and a manipulation which will be handled as a separate question below.
- Such “therapies” are physical therapy and not Chiropractic. While Chiropractors are legally allowed to provide such services, they do not serve to correct and maintain subluxation(s). They are helpful in certain situations and provide benefits to many people, every day. If one desires such services, please consult a Physical Therapist. If we feel such services will benefit you, we will suggest you do so. Please do not confuse the two as being the same, each are unique, independent, and vital to your health and well-being in their own right.
- We have trained extensively to learn how to adjust. We have over 12 years of experience adjusting people to help maintain a higher level of health at the time of this writing. We can say that such therapies are not necessary for the detection, correction, and maintenance of subluxation. If you are subluxated, we can help you.
All Chiropractors receive training in diversified adjusting during school. We also utilize Thompson, Upper Cervical, and Chiropractic Biophysics Techniques. Adjusting Techniques in Chiropractic are akin to medical specialization.
In fact, while most of our members use us exclusively, some of our people use a different Chiropractor for pain relief and therapy while receiving maintenance care from us. We’re all here to find what works best for you to help you reach your goals.
- We get results without therapies. When people undergo correction for subluxation, your body heals. You will heal the complaint you came in with, You will heal the issues you have elsewhere (see “organics” below), you will heal issues you are not yet aware of.
- Therapies add time in the office. Because we get results without therapies, our in-office time is reduced compared to other offices. This makes for a more efficient and effective experience for you.
- Heat, ice, and exercise can be done at home. When you willingly provide yourself these therapies, you don’t have to pay our office to watch you. Most people already provide themselves these therapies naturally and do a good job of it. You may need a little guidance in this area which we are happy to provide you. For the most part, you can do this on your own. By providing your own home therapy care, you’ll help others get the care they require and want by freeing up more time in the office for them.
What is the difference between an adjustment and a manipulation?
A manipulation’s purpose is to relieve (mask) pain and improve range of motion.
An adjustment “turns on the power” to your nerve system allowing for proper “electrical” flow to every single cell, tissue, organ and muscle in your body. Research has shown how different areas of the brain are activated during adjustments. You’ll also receive the relief and range of motion improvements also.
We provide more specific information during our New Member Orientation.
Yes. When you are adjusted on successive days it is like placing money in the bank. The more money you have saved up, the more you have to withdraw when you need it.
Create your schedule in a way that allows you to maintain the recommended frequency. We have observed that those who follow their Doctor’s recommendations are the ones who are most satisfied with their care.
What is the “cracking” sound I hear when I am adjusted?
The “cracking” sound is air releasing from your joints.
Your bones are not breaking, rubbing against each other, or being damaged. In fact a proper adjustment may be delivered without a sound.
This is different from when you crack your knuckles. Those sounds come from your cartilage tearing.

I have heard the word subluxation many times now, what is it?
Subluxa*tion is interference to your nerve(s). This question is answered in detail during the Doctors Report / Orientation which everyone attends with a guest.
It is different for everyone.
Most people feel a sensation of warmth (active healing), others feel sore (like a good workout), and some feel nothing at all.
Miracles happen in an instant. Healing is a process that you have to trust, it takes time and repetition.
What can I or can’t I do while under Chiropractic care?
Use common sense and do what you feel is appropriate. Be smart and listen to your body. Do what it tells you to do or don’t do. You are the only one who can limit yourself.
An adjustment removes interference from your nerve system. This question is answered in detail during the Doctors Report/ Orientation which is open to everyone. Orientation is highly recommended for New Members to attend. You may bring a guest with you.
How safe is an adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustments are SAFE. The CT dept of Public Health states that between the years 2000 and 2008, Chiropractors accounted for only 1% of all disciplinary actions taken. It is also well known that Chiropractors have the lowest malpractice premiums of any professional (healthcare or otherwise) which is a testament to the safety record of Chiropractic adjustments.
Do I have to get adjusted for the rest of my life?
Miracles happen in an instant, but health and healing take time and repetition. What are your goals for yourself and your health?
Some people want only short term pain relief (like turing up the radio in your car when you hear a noise in the engine), others want to correct their subluxations (like replacing a part on an appliance), and there are those who desire a lifetime wellness/maintenance program (Like changing the oil in your car or dating your spouse).
If you are subluxated, we can help you and will take you as far as you want to go with your health.
Why would I maintain my spine and nerve system if I feel fine?
Please answer the following questions:
What will happen if you don’t maintain your teeth with regular brushing?
What will happen if you don’t maintain your marriage by talking and dating?
What will happen if you don’t maintain your car with regular oil changes?
What will happen if you don’t maintain a violin/piano/guitar with regular tuning?
What will happen to your spine and nerve system without regular adjustments?
When not taken care of properly, they all break down (degenerate, decay).
We have all gone to the dentist for a cleaning/checkup, received x-rays and learned that we had a cavity, even though we were feeling fine. If it hasn’t happened to you, then you certainly know someone who has had that experience. Being subluxated is similar.
Receiving regular adjustments for proper nerve and spine maintenance is up to you, just like filling the cavity in your tooth is up to you. People who continue their care with regular maintenance experience more energy, greater athletic ability, improved resistance to infection and disease, improved recovery times from exercise, and an overall feeling of well-being, just to name a few things we’ve heard and been documented in the literature.
I want relief NOW; why is this taking longer than I want it to?
Miracles happen in an instant, health and healing take time and repetition.
Your body will heal the highest, most vital priorities first and then move onto the conscious symptom(s) we are seeking relief from afterwards.
In other words, if your “back pain” doesn’t go away right away, there are likely one or more higher priorities for your body to handle first. Maybe you have an organic (heart, lung, etc) problem that you aren’t consciously aware of (Organs DO NOT have pain sensation).
Remember, the only difference between an acorn and an oak tree is time. All healing takes time. Have patience and you’ll get there.
Will I need to do anything else in addition to getting adjusted, such as exercise, diet, massage, or yoga?
We will determine that at the time of your examination. If we do not discuss it with you directly, it is not necessary.
Exercise, diet, massage, and yoga are all beneficial to health and we suggest everyone enter a program to improve upon and maintain those areas of health. We work with providers in each profession and are happy to refer you to work with them. Follow their instruction for best results in each area.
Can Chiropractic help organic (heart, lung, kidney, bladder, etc) problems?
Yes. Your nerve system controls and co-ordinates your entire body including your organs. Subluxations interfere with normal nerve function between the brain and body. Chiropractors remove subluxations allowing for the normal expression of the nerve system, re-connecting the brain and body aiding organic function and its healing.
Harvey Lillard, the first Chiropractic patient, in 1895 was deaf for 17 years before meeting Dr. DD Palmer. He received an adjustment and was able to hear again. While it is debated whether it was one adjustment or a series, the result is the same, Harvey was able to hear again.
Dr. Nardi is a Chiropractor because he received Chiropractic care for asthma and was told by his pediatrician he would have it the rest of his life and there was no “cure” for asthma. After a year of adjustments, he threw away his medications and decided to become a Chiropractor.
“Jaden” was an infant with reflux and was put on medication to keep his stomach acid down. Mom and dad didn’t like that, so they brought him to see Dr. Nardi. They noticed a difference after one adjustment and Jaden continued to improve with each successive adjustment. Now, mom, dad, and Jaden all receive regular weekly adjustments.
My spouse, child, friend, co-worker, religious leader, etc has problem “X”, can Chiropractic help?
Yes. Regardless of pain, symptoms, disease, condition or diagnosis, Chiropractic corrects the subluxation and lets you heal your body.
Refer them in for a complimentary exam that will discover if they are subluxated and we’ll offer advice as to the appropriate steps to take.
What is the next step?
Chiropractic is about LIFE. It is about listening to, trusting and acting on what that wee small whisper of a voice telling you what to do for the betterment of your life. When you listen and act, your ailments subside, your pains go away, and you will experience life better than you have.
The journey begins when you and a guest attend our Doctor’s Report / Orientation. We’ll explain how chiropractic works, what you can expect, and how to live a full life with vigor and energy. Orientations are offered on weekdays at 11AM and 6 PM.
From all of us at Nardi Family Chiropractic, LLC, we wish you well in life.
Yours in Health,
Brian Nardi, D. C.
PS. What do you see when you hold an acorn in your hand?
Do you just see a nut that annoys you when it falls? Or do you see a forest filled with grand oak trees, each producing multiple acorns that become grand oak trees? Those forests become lumber for houses, work for lumberjacks, contractors and living spaces for many. That acorn becomes neighborhoods, tools, and modern amenities. Do you have the big vision for your life and health?
